  Errata for core Rulebook p. 19 (Repeat) -- The final line of details about Repeating a Power ("It does not count as using a new Power") should read "It does count as using a new Power". (Spurious "not".)

Aspects

• If the Locus Aspect lets a Spirit Repeat a Power Card at its Incarna, what happens if that Spirit uses the Power Card again (e.g., via Powerstorm)? Can they Repeat the Power Card at the Incarna again?
  Yes, but only if the Spirit has enough absorbed Presence. Each Repeat granted by Strength of the Waking Island counts against the total number of Repeats it grants that Spirit that turn.

• Do the modifiers from Intensify carry over into Repeats?
  No, since they apply to actions (e.g., one use of a Power) rather than to Powers directly. However, since each Repeat is a new action, the marker limit resets for the Repeat.

Blighted Island cards

• Can you Repeat the Power Card granted by Aid from Lesser Spirits?
  Yes, but with some restrictions.

  • Anything that checks the cost of the Power Card checks its printed cost, which may be 1 Energy.
  • It's not one of your Power Cards in play, so you can't Repeat it with Gift of Twinned Days (but it doesn't stop you from repeating a more expensive Power Card).

  Triggered Repeats, like those from Relentless Punishment, also work normally.

Effect Rules

• When Repeating a Power that has choices, do you have to make the same choice the second time?
  No, when Repeating a Power, you can make different choices unless the Power explicitly says otherwise. This can include:

  • Choosing a different target
  • Choosing a different mode (e.g., gaining Energy with the first use of Gift of Searing Heat and then spending it with the second use)
  • Choosing not to pay for something you paid for the first time (e.g., not paying for a card with the second use of Exaltation of Tangled Growth)

• When instructed to "Repeat this Power", do you have to obey the range/target land restrictions?
  Only if it doesn't tell you where to Repeat it. If a Repeat specifies where to use it, you obey those instructions instead of the usual Range and Target restrictions (p. 19) even if the land would normally be untargetable. In the rare case that the origin land matters when instructed to Repeat a Power in a specific land, it's the same origin land as the original power use.

  For example, The Land Thrashes in Furious Pain could be Repeated on an adjacent land without Blight.

Elements and Elemental Thresholds

• When I Repeat a Major Power, if I got the threshold effect the first time, do I get it on the repetition as well?
  Yes, usually.

  Elements are not "used up" when you reach a threshold, so you still have the elements on the repetition. The only exception would be if you lose the elements before the repetition (e.g., you Forgot a card in play granting the elements).

Power Cards

• If you Repeat a card that boosts its own Range via an elemental threshold (eg: Sap the Strength of Multitudes), but don't have the threshold when you Repeat it, is the Repeat's range still boosted?
  Yes. Changes to Range/Speed persist across Repeats.

  If you do have the threshold, you don't get the +1 Range again. (This is counter to a strict reading of the rules; the threshold would be better written as "This Power's Range is 1", the way Talons of Lightning's is.)

  This does not apply to Carapaced Land, which has a greater Range for targeting lands with Beasts as an intrinsic part of its effect.

• Can Powerstorm or Gift of Strength let someone Repeat Innate Powers?
  No. Powerstorm (Major Power) and Gift of Strength (Innate for Vital Strength of the Earth) both specifically say "Repeat a Power Card". (If they said "Repeat a Power", the answer would be yes.)

• Can Gift of Strength or Powerstorm (both Fast powers) be used on a Slow power card?
  Yes. Gift of Strength targets a Spirit, not a Power Card. At any point during the turn, that Spirit may choose to Repeat a power card (of the specified Energy cost or lower), whether it is a fast power or a slow power.

  They need not choose which power card to Repeat until they actually use the ability. The repeated power activates with the same speed as the first use of the power. See the description of Repeat [p. 19]

• If you target yourself with Gift of Twinned Days in a solo game, can you repeat your lowest-cost power twice? If so, can you choose a different power to be ‘lowest-cost’ the second time?
  Yes, and yes.

  It works differently than Serpent Wakes in Power (Serpent Slumbering Beneath the Island) because that innate says "Other Spirits with (condition) do likewise", rather than working via targeting particular Spirits.

• If you meet the elemental threshold for Powerstorm, can the target spirit pay for and repeat the same power multiple times?
  No, they can't.

  The elemental threshold on Powerstorm allows the target spirit to repeat up to three different power cards.

  The spirit Downpour Drenches the World is worded differently, and may repeat the same Power card.

• Can Sky Stretches to Shore let you, during the Slow Phase, Repeat an already-used Fast Power? (Assuming you have a Repeat from somewhere, like Powerstorm or Gift of Strength.)
  Yes. Even after a Power is used, it stays in play, and can be modified - there's just usually little point in doing so. So the Fast Power can be made Slow¹ with Sky Stretches to Shore, then used via the Repeat.

  ¹ Effects reading "Use a Power as if it were (Fast/Slow)" should be interpreted as "Make a Power (Fast/Slow)", and would have been better phrased that way.

• If you Repeat a Power, can you use another Power in between the two uses, or do the original Power and its Repeat have to go right after each other?
  If the Power itself grants the Repeat (e.g., Creepers Tear into Mortar or The Land Thrashes in Furious Pain), then following the instructions on the first use you are told to Repeat the power, so you have to do it immediately.

  Powerstorm and Gift of Strength let you use a Repeat at any point in the turn, so in that case you can use another power in between the two uses of the Repeated power.

• If you Repeat a Power card with Powerstorm or Gift of Strength, do you get double the elements?
  No, you only get the elements once, when you play the card (p. 19, under Repeat).

  If you Repeat a Power card that explicitly grants elements (like Elemental Boon) then you do get the benefit twice.

• If you Repeat Infestation of Venomous Spiders with threshold, does the "this Power" in the threshold refer to all uses of the Power that turn, granting Damage twice from each skip?
  No, when you check what "this Power" does, it refers to one use of the Power, not every use that turn. Any Action skipped by one use of Infestation of Venomous Spiders will only cause Damage from that use's threshold, not from any Repeats.

• When you use a Power outside of its normal phase (eg, during the Invader Phase via the Rouse the Spirits event), if Repeats have been granted to you (eg, from Gift of Strength), can you use them then?
  Changed answer: No. Unlike Lightning's Boon or Sky Stretches to Shore, you're not actually changing the Power's speed, you're just using it (once) ignoring speed. Repeats can happen in the phase matching the Power's actual speed.

  The first-pass answer was "yes" based on the idea that these things changed the Power's speed, but that proved the wrong direction.

  Note that this only applies to granted Repeats, like from Gift of Twinned Days or the like. It does not apply to Powers which have "Repeat this Power" as one of their instructions; those can and must be Repeated immediately as an action triggered by the initial use. (After any other triggered actions.)

• If I use the "forget this Power" option on Call on Midnight's Dreams, can I still Repeat the Power Card? <i>(With, e.g., Powerstorm, or Gift of Strength.)</i>
  No.
  

  The Power Card leaves play when you Forget it, so is no longer available to be Repeated.

• Can Vengeance of the Dead trigger itself? How about if it's Repeated?
  It can't trigger itself. But if it's Repeated, the two different triggers can set each other off.

  Example 1: You use Vengeance of the Dead on a land with many Towns which have each taken 1 Damage. If a Dahan dies there, Vengeance of the Dead will trigger and deal 1 damage (destroying a Town), but will not trigger further because it can't trigger itself.

  Example 2: Same situation, but you've used Vengeance of the Dead twice via a Repeat. This sets up two triggered actions, call them A and B. If a Dahan dies there, trigger A will go off, destroying a Town (triggering B, destroying a Town), then trigger B will go off, destroying a Town (triggering A, destroying a Town). Neither branch can go further because triggers cannot trigger themselves, even indirectly.

Scenarios

• In Rituals of the Destroying Flame, if you Repeat a Power (and aren't targeting near a Flame Marker), do you need to pay 2 Energy again in order to Damage/Destroy Invaders?
  Yes. The original Power use and the Repeat are considered separately.

  This might mean you only need to pay the 2 Energy for one or the other, if one targets a land within 1 of a Flame Marker but the other doesn't.

Spirits and Innate Powers

• Does the Damage bonus from Gift of Furious Might persist when the affected Power is Repeated?
  No, the bonus only increases one instance of dealing Damage, rather than boosting one Power for the entire turn. (This is more clear starting in the second printing.)

• When using Relentless Punishment to repeat a Power Card, what counts as a previous use?
  Any time you have resolved the Power, including:

  • The original use of the Power;
  • Any time Relentless Punishment repeated that Power;
  • Any time that Power repeated itself (e.g., Winds of Rust and Atrophy repeating itself with its threshold); and
  • Any time something else repeated that Power (e.g., Powerstorm)

  Thus, if at all possible, you want to target the land where you're going to use Relentless Punishment before you use any other Repeats.

• If Shadows Repeats a Power that it range-boosted with Shadows of the Dahan, does it have to pay Energy again?
  No. Modifications to a Power carry over to its Repeat. (p. 19)

  Remember that if there are explicit instructions about where to Repeat a Power, those take priority. So if a Power Card says "Repeat this Power in an adjacent land", you may (and must) target a land adjacent to the original, rather than choosing a new target the usual way.

• If Bringer of Dreams and Nightmares Repeats a Power, can the Repeat "destroy" Invaders that were "destroyed" by the original Power use?
  Yes. The Repeat is considered a separate action from the original.

  This also means Bringer's Repeat cannot usefully combine Damage with its original – for instance a Repeated "2 Damage" Power couldn't do anything to an undamaged City. The original action would resolve, and 2 Damage isn't enough to destroy the City, so nothing happens. Then the second use of the Power resolves, and 2 Damage isn't enough to destroy the City, so nothing happens.

• Can Dances Up Earthquakes make a Power Card impending when Repeating it?
  No. Repeating a Power Card in play just lets you use it again; it doesn't re-play the card.

• Can Relentless Gaze of the Sun usefully Repeat a Power Card with Relentless Punishment if the first use makes the land untargetable for the second use? (e.g., if Lure of the Unknown Gathers a Town into a land, preventing that land from being a land without Invaders.)
  Yes. When the source of a Repeat specifies which land it affects, ignore the normal Range and Target requirements. In this case, the second use of Lure of the Unknown can Gather an additional Explorer/Town, since the "no Invaders" targeting condition is ignored.

  This won't let you get around any conditional requirements in the Power's effects though. For example, if Sear Anger Into the Wild Lands destroys the last Invader in a land, a Relentless Punishment Repeat of the Power can no longer meet the "if Wilds and Invaders are present" condition in the Power's effect to add more Fear.
