Effect Rules

• If an Invader with Strife is not participating in a Ravage, does it still remove 1 Strife in that Ravage?
  No. Because it's not participating in Ravage, it's not doing any Damage that Strife would prevent.

• What's the timing of Strife removal? When Invaders have reduced Health per Strife, do they get it back before damage is dealt?
  The Strife is removed before they deal Damage (JE rules p. 7, Ravage Timing sidebar). This means that if their Health is reduced by Strife (via effects like the Panic Fear card) they get their Health restored first.

  This matters if Dahan are dealing damage simultaneously to Invaders, with powers like Words of Warning or Why Don't You and Them Fight.

Event Cards

• If Invaders do extra damage in a land where all Invaders have Strife, what happens?
  Changed answer (as of Jagged Earth): The damage boost does not apply. (JE, p. 7) Per-land damage boosts only apply if the Invaders manage to muster up at least 1 Damage prior to Defend, so empty lands which manage to Ravage, lands where all Invaders are Strifed, or lands full of Explorers that are affected by Mesmerized Tranquility don't get per-land damage boosts. This is a change from pre-Jagged Earth, as noted on the JE rules p. 7.

Fear and Fear Cards

• If a Fear cards tells you to add Strife and then do something to pieces with Strife, does that affect just the newly-added Strife?
  No, it affects all pieces with Strife anywhere on the board, whether or not you put a new token on it.

  Remember that Strife, unlike the other tokens, is always assigned to a particular Invader.

General Play

• Can Strife move independently of the Invader piece it is attached to?
  No, the Strife only moves with that Invader and stays attached the entire way.

  For instance, Strife can not be divided separately from the Invader it's attached to when Weave Together the Fabric of Place expires, nor can it be moved independently by Bargain of Coursing Paths.

• Can Strife be added to a land without Invaders?
  No, Strife can only be added directly to an Invader. If no Invaders are present, any instruction to add Strife is skipped.

• If you damage an invader and then replace it with another invader, will the new invader enter the game damaged?
  Yes. (Rulebook p. 18) When you replace a piece with another piece, the new piece comes in with whatever damage the original piece had.
  

  For example, if you deal 2 damage to a city and then replace it with a town, that town will be destroyed immediately.

  If you replace a damaged piece with two or more pieces (as when Dissolve the Bonds of Kinship replaces a City with two Explorers), the damage (and Strife tokens, if applicable) get divided between the new pieces as you choose.

Invader Actions

• Under “Ravage Timing” on p. 7 of the Jagged Earth rulebook, it mentions “modifiers to individual Invader Damage” happen first, and “per-land modifiers” only happen afterwards. Why is this relevant? What are some examples of individual vs. land modifiers?
  It's relevant when every Invader in a land has been rendered harmless (via Strife, or reducing its individual Damage to 0) — drawing an Event Card like Destroy the Unnatural (which does +3 total Damage in certain lands) won't increase the Damage from 0 to 3.

  Individual modifiers are things like “Cities deal +3 Damage”, Mesmerized Tranquility (“Each Invader deals -1 damage”), or Strife tokens. Per-land modifiers are things like Destroy the Unnatural (above), or anything which says “Invaders deal +N Damage (per land) …”

Power Cards

• For the base effect of Instruments of Their Own Ruin, if there are multiple Invaders with Strife, do they deal Damage simultaneously?
  Yes.

  So if you had a City, a Town, and an Explorer all with Strife, the Town + Explorer could destroy the City while the City destroyed the Town + Explorer.

  The same applies to the Terror Level III effects of the Fear cards Discord and Theological Strife.

• Do damage boosts affect the damage from the threshold effect of Instruments of their Own Ruin? Does Strife?
  Damage boosts (eg, from Sweden level 3) usually do affect it, as they are still Ravaging. Strife does not, as the Invaders are damaging other Invaders.

• If an Explorer with Strife is affected by Voice of Command, does it still deal damage?
  Yes.

  The rules for Strife start “Whenever Invaders Damage the Dahan and/or the Land …” An Explorer under the sway of Voice of Command is damaging other Invaders, and so is not affected by the Strife.

Spirits and Innate Powers

• Can Breath of Darkness Down Your Spine choose Strife as one of the pieces escaping the Endless Dark?
  No, because Strife can't move independently of the Invader it's attached to. If you must choose two pieces to let escape, they must both be non-Strife pieces.

  Strife tokens will escape with the Invader they are attached to, but do not count towards the number of pieces escaping.

• If Exhale Confusion and Delirium stops Invaders with Strife from participating in Ravage, does Spread Tumult and Delusion still use that Strife to stop Dahan from participating as well?
  Yes, which pieces are participating in Ravage is determined simultaneously. There is no point at which the Strifed Invaders are not participating, but it's still undetermined if the Dahan will participate.

• For Shifting Memory of Ages' innate which lets them prepare element markers: does damaging pieces count? How about adding Strife? Scenario markers?
  Damaging a piece doesn't change which pieces are in the land, so no. Adding Strife adds a new piece, so yes. Scenario markers aren't generally considered pieces, so no.
