Adversaries

• Does making Explorers not participate in Ravage (e.g., with Lure of the Deep Wilderness) prevent "Competition Among Hunters" (The Tsardom of Russia Level 3) from causing Ravages?
  Yes.

  Since "Competition Among Hunters" modifies which lands match Ravage Cards, it only checks for Explorers that are participating in Ravage.

Effect Rules

• If a Dahan is not participating in Ravage, can it still grant Defend 1 in that Ravage from Bargains of Power and Protection or Canny Defense?
  No, if a piece is not participating in Ravage, it can’t grant Defend in that Ravage or count towards an effect that grants Defend in that Ravage. However, in the rare case that Invaders do Damage to the land or to the Dahan outside of a Ravage due to a Power or Event, the Dahan will grant Defend and reduce that Damage.

  This is only a problem for effects that apply to the entire island, and are thus rechecked every time they are relevant. Effects that check for or count Dahan in a single land lock in their Defend amount earlier in the turn.

• Pieces that "do not participate in Ravage" are ignored for Ravages. Does this include checking for victory?
  No, that wasn't intended. Pieces not participating in an Invader Action are still counted for Victory / Defeat.

• If an Invader with Strife is not participating in a Ravage, does it still remove 1 Strife in that Ravage?
  No. Because it's not participating in Ravage, it's not doing any Damage that Strife would prevent.

Invader Actions

• When a Ravage changes which pieces are in other lands, can that cause additional Ravages from the current Ravage Card?
  No. Determine which lands will Ravage before resolving any of those Ravages. A land with no Invaders at this point won't Ravage even if Invaders are later added or moved there. However:

  • If a land already has Invaders participating in Ravage, the new Invaders also participate in that Ravage. Depending on how well the land is Defended and how many Dahan are present, this could be good (more Invaders destroyed in the counterattack) or bad (the Ravage now adds Blight from the extra Damage). You can resolve the two Ravages in whichever order is more advantageous.
  • If there's another Ravage Card this turn, that card can now cause Ravages in any matching lands that are no longer empty.

  This applies both to lands that "naturally" match the Ravage Card (e.g., a Jungle when the Ravage Card is Sands+Jungles) and to lands that match the Ravage Card due to an extra effect (e.g., lands with 3+ Explorers against the Tsardom of Russia Level 3+). Thus, for instance, against the Tsardom of Russia level 3+, if a Ravage pushes an Explorer by the Level 2 effect "A Sense for Impending Disaster", it will not cause a Ravage to happen by the Level 3 effect "Competition Among Hunters" from the same card, but can cause a Ravage from a following Ravage Card added by the Level 5 effect "Entrench in the Face of Fear."

  Explore and Build Cards work similarly, albeit without the concern around the amount of Damage.

Spirits and Innate Powers

• If Exhale Confusion and Delirium stops Invaders with Strife from participating in Ravage, does Spread Tumult and Delusion still use that Strife to stop Dahan from participating as well?
  Yes, which pieces are participating in Ravage is determined simultaneously. There is no point at which the Strifed Invaders are not participating, but it's still undetermined if the Dahan will participate.

• With Unnerving Pall (from Shroud of Silent Mist), when do you choose which Invaders are participating in the Ravage? When the card is played, or at the time of the Ravage? What if new damaged Invaders move in?
  At the time of the Ravage Step / Ravage Action. It's not clearly worded, but the Power is modifying the land, much like when Dahan get +Health in a particular land.

• Is Lure of the Deep Wilderness' ability to ignore Explorers the same as saying those Explorers do not participate in Ravage?
  Yes. You may ignore Explorers for determining which lands Ravage and for individual Ravage actions, as per "does not participate in Ravage" (JE rulebook, p. 14; NI rulebook, p. 6).
