Effect Rules

• If your Incarna is the only Presence you have left on the island, do you need to continually count it as Presence to avoid losing?
  No. You can choose to count it as Presence for victory and defeat checks without having to count it as Presence for everything else.

  Similarly, pieces that can count as Beasts don't need to continuously count as such against the Tsardom of Russia, just for the victory and defeat checks.

• When I can count one piece as another, can I change that mid-action? (eg: counting Many Minds Move as One's sacred sites as a Beasts?)
  Not generally, no. Unless otherwise specified, the rule for "You may count Thing X as Thing Y" is that you choose per piece, per action, and your decision applies for that whole action.

  You can choose differently for nested actions - eg, if you flip the Blight card and it has immediate effects. (Example: You play Insatiable Hunger of the Swarm, and count all of your Sacred Sites as Beasts. It adds Blight which flips the Blight Card, revealing the one which destroys 1 Beasts on each board. You choose to not count any of your Sacred Sites as Beasts for that. You then continue resolving Insatiable Hunger of the Swarm, and your Sacred Sites count as Beasts for it.)

• If both a Beasts and something that counts as a Beasts (e.g., a sacred site of Many Minds Move as One) are in the same land and something destroys a Beasts there, can you choose which one is destroyed?
  Yes. Even if there are two ordinary Beasts tokens in a land, players get to choose which one gets destroyed – it just doesn't usually matter which one you pick.

  Similarly, if a Presence and an Incarna are both in a land and something would destroy Presence there, the Spirit can choose whether to destroy the Presence or the Incarna.

Elements and Elemental Thresholds

• Can you use the threshold effects of Innate Powers, even if you can't use the effects above them?
  Yes, each line is evaluated independently, depending on the Elements you activate the power with.

  (You are allowed to pretend you have fewer Elements than you actually have, but need to be consistent for the whole power.)

Event Cards

• If the Event Beasts Prey on the Injured happens in a game with Many Minds Move as One, do Many Minds' Sacred Sites count as a Badlands?
  Yes. The Sacred Site counts as a Beasts due to Many Mind's special rule, then counts as a Badlands due to Beasts Prey on the Injured.

  Note that this isn't relevant for Settle Into Hunting-Grounds, since the Presence of a Spirit affected by it already counts as Badlands - see this FAQ.

General Play

• If a Spirit's Presence counts as Beasts (say, due to Settle Into Hunting-Grounds), and a "destroy Beasts" effect destroys their Presence, is it still considered destroyed Presence? More generally, if Piece A also counts as Piece B, and a "destroy/remove Piece B" effect destroys/removes it, does it go to the supply for A or B?
  It's considered destroyed Presence. When a piece is removed from the board, it goes to the supply (or other destination) for that physical type of piece.

Power Cards

• Why is there a copy of Sea Monsters in Jagged Earth *and* in Branch & Claw? What's the difference?
  The copy of Sea Monsters in Jagged Earth replaces the original version in Branch & Claw. It limits the maximum amount of Fear generated, to avoid ridiculous combos with Many Minds Move as One. The new text reads: "Add 1 [Beasts]. If Invaders are present, 2 [Fear] per [Beasts] (max. 8 [Fear]). 3 Damage per [Beasts]. 1 Damage per [Blight]. -If you have- 3 Water, 3 Animal: Repeat this power." If you have just Branch & Claw, you are welcome to use this new wording if you like, but it's not required.

  If you have Jagged Earth but not Branch & Claw, technically, you shouldn't add Sea Monsters to the Major Power deck. But it's not a huge deal if you do - the elemental balance of the Major Power deck isn't as tightly tuned as that of the Minor Powers.

• If Pent-Up Calamity removes a Spirit's Presence to deal damage (via that Presence counting as, e.g., Beasts): can the threshold replace that Presence?
  No, it will replace an actual token of the type you chose to remove.

  When a piece is removed from the board, it goes to the supply (or other destination) for that physical type of piece, it doesn't "remember" what it was while on the island.

• For Powers that let you skip some # of Invader Actions, how/when do you decide which Invader Actions to skip?
  You decide when they come up.

  You can skip as many as you want, up to the limit given. You are not obliged to use all skips to which you are entitled (you could always be saving them for a future Invader Action caused by something unusual). Unused skips do not carry over to the next turn (as normal for effects that don't change pieces).

• If you use Encompassing Ward ("Defend 2 in every land where Target Spirit has Presence"), then the target Spirit moves some of their Presence, does the Defend move/change?
  Changed answer: Yes. The Power modifies the target Spirit so it provides Defend 2 in any lands where it happens to have Presence at that moment.

  This is for consistency with other effects that alter an entire class of things, mostly on Fear Cards and Event Cards. Powers that affect a single land, or a land and its neighbors (e.g., Bloodwrack Plague; Prey On the Builders) – check state at the moment they resolve.

  This is entirely for ease of play. For a single-land effect, it's much easier to check prerequisites at the moment of resolution and not have to remember, e.g., "oh, I need to leave a Beasts in this land to cancel the Build". For widespread effects, it's much easier to remember a general rule like "Invaders skip actions in lands with 2 or more Dahan" than it is to note and remember every single land with 2 or more Dahan at that moment, and keep that memory until the Ravage happens.

Setup

• If a Spirit has multiple legal ways to set up on the island, can it choose the one it likes best?
  Yes, when there are multiple choices that equally meet the setup conditions, the player gets to choose the one they like. For some Spirits, this will only happen on the thematic side or against specific Adversaries/Scenarios.

Spirit Phase

• Can you use a Presence track action in the middle of Growth?
  Yes, so long it's in between actions (or before choosing a Growth option). Generally, each icon is one Action(†).
  

  For instance, Downpour Drenches the World could choose its second growth option (which has 2 "Add a Presence" icons), add 1 Presence to uncover a "Move Presence 1" space, use the Move 1 to shift a Presence, then place a second Presence from the new position. Or Many Minds Move as One could gain Energy with its 3rd Growth option, then use it to gain a Power Card before deciding where to place Presence.

  (†) = With an exception for icons that explicitly indicate "do this thing multiple times", like Fractured Days' "xN"s or Ocean's "....to/from EACH Ocean".

Spirits and Innate Powers

• When Roiling Waters Bleeding adds a non-Beasts piece that counts as a Beasts token (e.g., the Presence of a Spirit under Settled into Hunting-Grounds), does it deal Damage?
  Generally, no. Lands of Blood and Savagery checks if the piece that's being added is already a Beasts, not if it will be a Beasts once it arrives.

  Nevertheless, Roiling Waters Bleeding deals Damage if repositioning a piece on the island that already counts as a Beasts, whether that's the Incarna of Breath of Darkness Down Your Spine, the Presence of a Spirit under Settle Into Hunting Grounds, or a Sacred Site belonging to Many Minds Move as One.

• If Many Minds Move as One uses Settle Into Hunting-Grounds, do the two "may count as Beasts" rules stack?
  No. A land with 2 of their Presence could count as 1 Beasts (via their Special Rule) or 2 Beasts (via the Major Power), but not 3.

• Many Minds Move as One says "when *you* Gather or Push Beasts" - is that identical to "when *your actions* Gather or Push Beasts"?
  Nearly. In theory it could include some other sort of action that said "Target Spirit may Push a Beasts" or "Each Spirit Pushes a Beasts"... but in practice no such things exist, so functionally speaking it's identical.

  ("Each player may Push a Beasts" would not be sufficient - cases like that don't represent Spirits doing things, the game just needs a player to make a decision for a Fear or Event card. It would have to use the word "Spirit".)

  Usually, the wording "when you (do X)" is used for your pieces or other game components: e.g., "when you Forget a Power Card" or "when you uncover this spot on your Presence track" or "when your Presence is destroyed". Those can obviously happen as a result of many different sorts of actions, not only your own.

• What does "move 1 Beast up to two lands" mean on Guide the Way on Feathered Wings?
  You may move 1 Beast to an adjacent land, then may again move that same Beast to an adjacent land.

  "Move" is used rather than "Push" because Many Minds' special rule about Pushing Beasts doesn't apply.

  Most Powers which use the word "move" move pieces directly from one land to another without going through the intervening lands - e.g., Wrap in Wings of Sunlight, Strong and Constant Currents. Technically this one does too, but in each case the move is constrained to an adjacent land, so in practice it acts more like Call to Migrate.

• Playing Many Minds Move as One: if I treat my Sacred Site as Beasts in order to move it, do I have to move both Presence to the same land?
  Yes.
