  Errata for Badlands setup on Thematic Boards (JE p. 6) -- Land #9 on the West board should have 2 Badlands tokens, not just 1.

Adversaries

• What does "in board/land order" mean for Habsburg Monarchy (Livestock Colony) Level 1?
  It specifies exactly what order lands Gather Towns in: any relevant lands on Board A resolves first (starting with the lowest-numbered land matching a Build card and going up), then Board B, etc. On the thematic boards, go in "reading order" of left to right, top to bottom: NW, NE, W, E, SW, and finally SE.

  You go by order of lands to Gather in to. As usual, they can come from any adjacent land, including on another board.

  The primary motivation for this rule is speed of play – if it's not in a deterministic order, it usually doesn't matter much, but occasionally it really does, and searching for those cases and choosing the precise ordering of lands can slow the whole process down.

  If you want to handle all boards simultaneously for further speed, you can, so long as you avoid Gathering Towns that an earlier land might Gather.

• What are all the terrains on the thematic map of the island?
  Here's the list. (As usual, J = Jungle, M = Mountain, S = Sands, W = Wetland.)

  • Northwest: 1S 2S 3W 4J 5M 6S 7W 8M 9M
  • Northeast: 1S 2J 3J 4W 5J 6M 7M 8S 9W
  • West: 1J 2S 3S 4S 5J 6M 7W 8J 9S 10M

  Notes: there is a firestorm raging in NW land #6. NE land #7 wraps around NE land #6. The Southwest and Southeast boards are on the backs of boards shipping with Jagged Earth.

Power Cards

• For Dream of the Untouched Land, what orientation should the new board be placed in? Can it use Archipelago rules?
  It's not specified, so you choose any orientation that would be legal during setup and fully interlocks with a side of the target board. You may not use Archipelago rules, as that is not "next to".

  If all three interlockable edges of target board are accounted for (e.g., if target board is the "face" of the standard 5-player "crab" layout), then you can use any legal interlocking position that has a corner-to-corner adjacency with target board, even though that's not strictly "next to" target board. In the rare case even that isn't possible due to setup restrictions (e.g., Oceans being aligned during The Great River scenario, thematic boards all having only one possible position and orientation), you fail to add the new board and probably should have used the Power somewhere else.

Setup

• When setting up a Spirit, what happens if the setup instructions are impossible (e.g., adding Presence to a land with Blight when that board has no Blight).
  Either don't start that Spirit on that board or follow the instructions as best as you can, choosing freely when no lands meet the criteria given. [Jagged Earth Rulebook p. 6]

  When choosing freely, use theme as your guide — if you're in this situation, you're likely playing on the thematic map, after all!

Spirits and Innate Powers

• When Ocean’s Hungry Grasp is on a board, can Powers and Special Rules measure Range through that board’s Ocean?
  Yes, Powers and Special Rules can treat the Ocean as a land via Ocean in Play, so they can measure Range through it. Measuring Range through Land 2 is usually just as good, so this only matters if something has altered the board layout in some way:

  • The Thematic Map has some Oceans that are adjacent to more than three lands.
  • Land 2 is temporarily removed from play via Absolute Stasis.
  • Finder of Paths Unseen is using Open the Ways to connect a land to an Ocean.
