General Play

• Does unused energy carry over to the next turn?
  Yes, it does (p. 13).

  The only things cleared at the end of the turn are those listed in the "Time Passes" section (p. 10).

Power Cards

• What sources of Energy gain do Bargains affect?
  All sources: Growth, Gain Energy, power effects, events, etc. It never actually takes away Energy you have banked, though.

  If you have trouble remembering to gain less Energy, covering up numbers on your Energy track can be an easy reminder.

• Does the Energy Ocean’s Hungry Grasp gains from Drowning count as gaining Energy for the purpose of Bargains?
  Yes. Ocean doesn’t get to skip out of paying for its Bargains just because its main source of Energy isn’t one of the common sources.

  That being said, Ocean is not required to exchanged Drowned Invaders for Energy at a particular time, so it can save up Invaders on turns when it will not gain much Energy (avoiding fully paying for its Bargains on those turns) and then cash them out on a turn when it will gain a lot of Energy.

Scenarios

• With the "Blitz" scenario, can you use the Energy gained from playing an already-Fast 0-cost Power Card to help pay for another Power Card?
  Yes. The intent is that already-Fast 0-cost cards effectively cost "negative 1 energy".

• When does Blitz reduce the cost of a Fast Power and when does Blitz refund Energy for a Power being Fast?
  When you play Power Cards by paying their costs {1}, total up the Energy cost of all of the Powers you’re playing and reduce it by 1 per Fast Power to determine how much you need to pay. If that number is negative, gain that much Energy as a refund.

  When using a Fast Innate Power that has the potential to do something for the first time each turn, gain 1 Energy as a refund.

  When you make a Slow Power Fast (via Swiftness of Lightning or similar) gain a 1 Energy rebate.

  If a Fast Power Card (or a Power Card made Fast) costs 1 or more Energy, also reduce its printed cost by 1 (e.g., for Repeating it with Gift of Strength or checking when it's played by Rhythmic Power Builds to a Cataclysmic Crescendo).

  {1} = This usually as part of the “Play and Pay For Power Cards” action in Spirit Phase, but sometimes a Power like Call on Midnight’s Dream tells you to do so.

Spirit Phase

• Can you use Energy you gain during the Fast Power Phase <i>(e.g., from Boon of Vigor)</i> to pay for cards you play that turn?
  No, you cannot. You need to pay for all Powers when you play them, during the 'Play and pay for Power Cards' part of the Spirit Phase at the beginning of the turn. The Spirit Phase needs to be entirely completed before you start the Fast Power Phase, when you would gain the energy from cards like Boon of Vigor.

  Typically the Energy you gain from powers like this will only be useful on the following turn, unless something makes you use Energy in the middle of the turn.

Spirits and Innate Powers

• When Relentless Gaze of the Sun uses its final Growth option, does it also double the Elements it gains from its top Presence Track?
  No. That Growth option only doubles Energy gained, not all benefits from the Energy/turn track.

• What is the penultimate space on Dance Up Earthquakes' top track? Is it a track action that lets it gain 2 extra Energy onto each impending card?
  No, just gives 2 total Energy onto each card, and not as a track action. (For instance, it cannot be skipped.)

  Dances Up Earthquakes has two kinds of Energy icons on its top track. The highest normal Energy icon determines how much Energy Dances gains into its stockpile, and the highest Energy-on-an-impending-card icon determines how much Energy Dances gains onto each impending card.

• When do you pay the extra Energy for Shadows of the Dahan? <i>("Whenever you use a Power, you may pay 1 Energy to target a land with Dahan...")</i>
  When you use the Power - i.e., resolve its text effects. You don't have to choose a Power's target until you actually use it.

• When can Dances Up Earthquakes put Energy on impending cards?
  Dances Up Earthquakes can only put Energy on impending Power Cards in two ways:

  • When making a Power Card impending, they can put any amount of Energy on it.
  • When gaining Energy from its Presence Track in the middle of the Spirit Phase, they gain some amount of Energy (usually 1) directly onto each impending Power Card, based on which spaces are revealed on their top Presence Track and which Growth option they picked that turn.

• What does "-X Cost" mean on a growth option or power threshold?
  It means you have to pay that much Energy to take that growth option or trigger that level of your power. (Branch & Claw rulebook, p. 15)

  If you don't have the Energy, you can't take the option.

• When Dances Up Earthquakes gains Energy directly onto impending cards, is that Energy decreased by Bargains or increased by Back Against the Wall?
  No, those effects modify the Energy gained into a Spirit's individual Energy stockpile, not the amount gained onto impending cards.
