Aspects

• When the Intensify Aspect uses a Plant marker to increase the amount of destroyed Presence added with an action, can it only add one extra instead of two extra?
  Only if there's exactly one extra destroyed Presence to add. If there are two extra destroyed Presence, both must be added, even if you'd rather leave one of them destroyed.

General Play

• If a Spirit's Presence counts as Beasts (say, due to "Settle Into Hunting-Grounds"), and a "destroy Beasts" effect destroys their Presence, is it still considered destroyed Presence? More generally, if Piece A also counts as Piece B, and a "destroy/remove Piece B" effect destroys/removes it, does it go to the supply for A or B?
  It's considered destroyed Presence. When a piece is removed from the board, it goes to the supply (or other destination) for that physical type of piece.

Power Cards

• Can you use Blazing Renewal on a Spirit with no destroyed Presence just to do 4 Damage somewhere if you have the threshold elements?
  No.

  The threshold effect should specify "4 Damage in that land." (The Power doesn't target a land, so there's not any other place one could deal the Damage anyhow.)

• Does Fragments of Yesteryear restore the Disease and Beasts added as part of Branch & Claw / Jagged Earth setup on the balanced boards?
  No, since those are not printed setup symbols, unlike the tokens printed on the thematic boards. However, restoring them is the more thematic option, so you're welcome to do that if your group is willing to take the extra time to figure out where the Beasts started.

  If you want to put in a bit more work, the most thematic option is to restore the land to how it looked at the end of setup, including the first Explore and all Spirit, Adversary, and Scenario setup. If you need to add Presence for a Spirit, use their destroyed Presence; if they don't have enough destroyed Presence, add as much as you can. Depending on the exact combination of Adversaries, Scenarios, and Spirits, this may require a good memory or photographs of the starting board state to track variable setup options (e.g., where Ocean's Hungry Grasp put its second Presence).

Presence and Sacred Sites

• What happens to Presence when it gets removed or replaced?
  If it is replaced during play, it goes to the destroyed Presence pile in the supply unless the particular effect says to put it elsewhere. From there, it can be restored by any effect that returns destroyed Presence to the island.

  Anything replaced during setup is out of the game.

  As of the release of Nature Incarnate, only four Presence-removing/replacing effects send the Presence somewhere special: "Transform to a Murderous Darkness," "Call Forth Predators" (Sharp Fangs Behind the Leaves special rule), and both Bargains remove replaced Presence from the game. (Though Bargains put the Presence on reminder cards, this is just to help players track how many times they made the Bargain; Bargains scale with the number of times they are made, not the number of Presence on the reminder card.)

• Can Presence tokens destroyed by Blight be added to the island?
  Only if an effect explicitly says to add "destroyed Presence".

  Very few effects currently let you add destroyed Presence, like the "Steady Regeneration" special rule for A Spread of Rampant Green or the major power "Blazing Renewal."

• If all my Presence from my Spirit Panel is placed on the board, how do I add more?
  Whenever adding Presence, instead of taking from your Presence Tracks you can use Presence (of yours) already on the island instead. [sidebar, p. 14]. You can take it out of any land, including the land you're measuring Range from.

  While this option is most often relevant if your Presence tracks are empty, it's not a requirement for doing so.

  You cannot place destroyed Presence unless an effect explicitly says so.

Spirits and Innate Powers

• In Growth, can Relentless Gaze of the Sun add fewer than 3 Destroyed Presence or move fewer than 3 Presence?
  Yes.

  Thematically, Relentless Gaze of the Sun should have to restore as many Destroyed Presence as possible (max. 3), but enforcing this in the few cases it matters (e.g., preventing "Blazing Renewal" combos) wasn’t worth the trouble of players thinking that they could only take that Growth Action if they could return exactly 3 Destroyed Presence, or in extreme cases, that they couldn’t even choose that Growth Option – and its critical Reclaim All Power Cards Growth Action – unless they had at least 3 Destroyed Presence.

• Does the Presence limit for Serpent Slumbering Beneath the Island count destroyed Presence?
  No, the Presence limit only counts Presence that is actually on the island, not destroyed Presence.

  It is possible to get all the way to the end of your Presence track without ever using "Absorb Essence," if you never have more than 5 Presence on the board. Thematically, this is the Serpent being stung towards greater wakefulness.

• When Relentless Gaze of the Sun chooses another Spirit with "Consider a Harmonious Nature," must that Spirit have Destroyed Presence?
  No, Relentless Gaze of the Sun is free to choose any Spirit other than itself; the 3 Sun 1 Plant threshold just doesn’t do anything other than choosing a Spirit if the chosen Spirit has no Destroyed Presence.

  The chosen Spirit can still receive Energy from the final threshold.
