Effect Rules

• When an Invader with Strife is not participating in Ravage, is the Strife also ignored for modifiers to Ravage Actions?
  No, the Strife still counts as being in the land for Ravage Actions unless some effect is explicitly ignoring Strife.

  In particular:

  • The Fear Card "Beset by Many Troubles" still grants Defend based on that Strife;
  • The Event "Stricken" still skips the Ravage Action in that land;
  • The Event "Cooperation Among Towns" doesn't grant bonus Damage if any Towns/Cities are still participating in that Ravage;
  • Dahan in that land don't participate in Ravage if they're near the Incarna of Wandering Voice Keens Delirium (though this is also true for other reasons)

Event Cards

• If Invaders do extra damage in a land where all Invaders have Strife, what happens?
  Changed answer (as of Jagged Earth): The damage boost does not apply. (JE, p. 7) Per-land damage boosts only apply if the Invaders manage to muster up at least 1 Damage prior to Defend, so empty lands which manage to Ravage, lands where all Invaders are Strifed, or lands full of Explorers that are affected by Mesmerized Tranquility don't get per-land damage boosts. This is a change from pre-Jagged Earth, as noted on the JE rules p. 7.
  

  If you wish to play with the old rule, you can, but the game will be harder.

Fear and Fear Cards

• Does Beset by Many Troubles count Strife being removed in the current Ravage Action?
  Yes. While this doesn't strictly follow from the rules (p. 7 Jagged Earth), it's both thematically correct and how most players intuitively resolve the Fear Card.

  (If similar things come up in the future, we may tweak the Ravage sequence, but for 1 card it's less disruptive to just say "yes, you get this benefit".)

  Note that while the Strife counts for Beset by Many Troubles during that Ravage (in addition to preventing Damage from the Invader it's attached to), it won't contribute towards future Ravage Actions in that land or adjacent lands.

Invader Actions

• Under “Ravage Timing” on p. 7 of the Jagged Earth rulebook, it mentions “modifiers to individual Invader Damage” happen first, and “per-land modifiers” only happen afterwards. Why is this relevant? What are some examples of individual vs. land modifiers?
  It's relevant when every Invader in a land has been rendered harmless (via Strife, or reducing its individual Damage to 0) — drawing an Event Card like Destroy the Unnatural (which does +3 total Damage in certain lands) won't increase the Damage from 0 to 3.

  Individual modifiers are things like “Cities deal +3 Damage”, Mesmerized Tranquility (“Each Invader deals -1 damage”), or Strife tokens. Per-land modifiers are things like Destroy the Unnatural (above), or anything which says “Invaders deal +N Damage (per land) …”

Power Cards

• How does Voice of Command interact with Events that boost Invader damage or count Invaders?
  Events usually interact with "sides" (attacker vs counterattacker):

  • Boosts to total Invader Damage only benefit the Invaders' side - not the Explorers fighting alongside Dahan.
  • Boosts to "Invader Damage against Dahan" (Xenophobia) apply to damage done to the Dahan side - it doesn't matter if the damage is allocated to Dahan or Explorers.
  • Events counting the number of Invaders Ravaging (Fearful Mobs) count the pieces on the Invader's side - so not the Explorers. (A strict reading would count them, but this is wording for the normal case)

  (The last works differently from Badlands, which care about whether damage is actually done to Dahan pieces.)
