Learning Querki

Welcome to Querki!

When they first hit Querki, a lot of folks don't know where to start. So this tutorial is a gentle guide to using it, giving lots of examples to show you the high points. It's not designed to be a technical or reference manual; as the name says, it's all about learning Querki, pretty quickly.
This book is not required reading: if you're the sort who prefers to dive right in, especially if you have some technical background, odds are you can just figure it out as you go. I recommend the one-page Querki Quickstart, which provides an overview of the high concepts, and then you can just learn the rest by messing with it. But for folks who like to know what they are doing before they start doing it, this book is for you.
This book is divided into three parts:
  • The first section, Querki Basics, covers the most common features, telling you how to add and look at Things in Querki. This part is useful to pretty much everyone, as soon as you've been invited to join a Space.
  • The second section, Creating Your Own Spaces, describes how to build a Querki Space from scratch once you're a full Querki Member. It's a little bit more technical, and easier to follow if you have a little technical background. (We'll soon be releasing a beta of Querki Apps, at which point it will become easy for everyone to create Spaces, by quickly copying existing Apps. But for now, you need to be able to "think in data".)
  • Finally, the last section of the book, Advanced Topics, gets into the less-common power features of Querki -- topics like: Model Types and User Values; embedding photos in Querki; controlling the look and feel of your Space using CSS; managing fine-grained security in your Space; and lots more. There's a lot of interesting stuff there, but it gets unabashedly technical, and isn't aimed at beginners. Once you've created a Space or two, I recommend skimming what's there, and then diving into sections when you need them.
You'll find links at the bottom of each page, allowing you to navigate around the book. You can read each section simply by clicking through the "Next" links at the bottom of each page.
Finally, a quick introduction: hi, I'm Justin, the CEO and Architect of Querki. I built the first version of it for a personal project about a dozen years ago, and have spent the past several years turning it into a serious system that anyone can use, with a real company behind it. I'm excited to be able to share this with you, and hope you'll find the system as useful as I do.
