Deleting Things
Of course, while Querki is a great place to put your information, sometimes you want to remove that information. So let's talk about deleting Things.
From our example, let's say that Chris left his deck of We Didn't Playtest This at All out in the rain by accident, so we want to remove it from the collection. There are two different ways to delete it.
Deleting from the Menu
Our first option is to go to the Actions menu, and pick the Delete item there:
When we do that, Querki prompts us, to make sure we actually want to delete it:
If we press the "Delete" button, the Thing is removed from the Space, never to be seen again.
IMPORTANT: at the moment, Querki has no "undelete" function. So when you Delete something, it is permanent -- please make sure that you don't do so by accident! (This is why you have to confirm before deleting. After we add History and Undo, in 2016, you'll be able to fix an accidental deletion.)
Deleting from the Instance Editor
The other way to do it is from the Instance Editor. When you're editing a Thing, and your mouse is over the Editor, a red Trash icon shows up in the upper-right corner:
If you click on that icon, you get a prompt, telling you to click it a second time in order to Delete:
If you do click it again, the Thing is deleted. (Permanently and irretrievably, the same way it is from the menu pick.) If you just leave the button alone, the Confirm prompt will go away after a couple of seconds.
Deleting from the menu is usually the easiest way to do it. You'll find that deleting from the Trash icon is useful when either:
- You created this Thing by accident, and just want to delete it instead of filling in the Instance Editor
- You are in the Bulk Editor (discussed in the Advanced Topics section), and want to delete a particular Instance from there.
