wording for the normal case

Sometimes, when creating a Power / Event / etc, we have to choose between:
  • (A) Extremely precise, formal wording that is correct 100% of the time; or
  • (B) Concise / clear wording that is correct 99%+ of the time, but not quite right for a few edge cases.
Going with (A) makes game interactions perfectly transparent / predictable to players who master the formalisms of the rules, but makes the game more obtuse and confusing to the vast majority of players, who don't have that level of rules knowledge.
Going with (B) makes the game much more approachable, but means there exist edge-case interactions which cannot be formally deduced from the printed wording, requiring FAQ lookups to be sure.
Which wording is better for a given situation varies - how common are edge-cases? how much more awkward is the formal wording? - but if we're in doubt we'll tend to lean towards (B), as it negatively impacts many fewer players. (Though we like to know what the formal wording would be, so we can answer rules questions consistently.)
