Summary: A fluffy requirement, but a critical one at this point, I believe.
Check out the Landing Page and Freelancer models from StartBootstrap as decent starting points. Don't gold-plate this, but let's do something a bit nicer than what we have so far.
The structure of a modern landing page is essentially a bullet list. Figure out how to get the point across with the minimal number of steps.
This should have both Sign Up and Sign In buttons, at the top and bottom.
Possibly contact Start Bootstrap and talk about whether I could toss them a few hundred dollars to deal with it.
