Possible to create a Space with an empty name?

Summary: Reported by Troy Daniels: he was using Swype and having problems with data input. He appears to have created a Space with an empty name.
We require the field to be non-empty; is it possible that a spaces-only name is getting through? We shouldn't allow the first character to be a space.
