I can see my received Notifications without losing my workflow context

Summary: Currently, clicking on the bell icon takes me to a system-wide Notifications page. This takes me out of my current Space, which can suck from a workflow POV.
The correct implementation is probably akin to the way Facebook and Google+ do it: clicking on the icon shows a scrollable pane containing the summaries, in the context of the current page. If I click on a summary, then I get taken there, but I can make the decision to change contexts consciously.
The current state of things is arguably a UX bug, but building the pane is a bunch of work I don't have time for right now. This is kind of medium-high.
